APO Semaine 7 - Apres la pluie vient la peinture / After the rain, the paint.

I went to Korea....
Bilingual post.

Today's headlines: Rant, some WIP and Taiwanese whisky.

MODE Je-me-plains.

RANT: Light update with a lot of WIP. The week was very bad, with business trip to South Korea at the time of the MERS outbreak (my wife has been thinking about quaranting me, can't blame her). This made me think about what would happen during a zombie apocalypse. Listen to some of the scariest stories ever (and true, WTF): A quarantined guy decided to make a short trip because he believed he was ok, going to HK and South China before being stopped. In China, they tested the guy positive (!) and few hundred people have been quarantined. Then, in Korea, they move patients from hospitals to hospitals for treatment, spreading the virus. We are at the 3rd generation, where people have been infected by people in contact to the first Korean patient. But WHO said it was all fine to travel to Korea, because economy is more important. And finally, a doctor, who treated MERS patients and started to show flu symptoms decided to go to social event. This asshole has been in direct contact with more than a 1000 people. He tested positive to MERS.
Tout va bien, bonnes gens. It's all right, folks.

On the bright side of the week, the business trip had a leg to Taiwan where I bought the 2015 best whisky in the world (Taiwanese). I tried, it is really good.
Du très bon whisky. Some very good whisky.

I have also been priming now that it stopped raining. There was heavy rain for 2 weeks and humidity levels at 99-100%, which is never good for priming.
Last Vasa en cours. last VASA WIP

Defi APO Semaine 1 - Quand faut s'y mettre - SHK (Self Hobby Kidnapping) Week 1 - All start need a beginning

Beware, first dual language post, because,... hum, why not.

Moi, lisant vos blogs / me reading your blogs

5 zombies font une horde / 5 zombies make a horde

So, I have naively decided to start a SHK (Self Hobby Kidnapping) that was started by a blog I followed from my sky leather chair.

As usual, I threw stuff that came to mind assuming nobody would notice. Unfortunately, Sir RafPark (or Sir Park, or Sir Raf, or is it Sir f'Park Râ?) saw my weak e-bravado.

So, turbo-mod, and few blind brush strokes after, I started a beginning of something, not even close from my main goal: Finish my dust-collecting Vasa army. Yes, I love it, and Yes, I never had the guts to touch them.

So no Vasa this week, few shambling zombies here and there about to board the USS Serenity and dward boats about to taste Deep Blue Bretonnians.

My Plans for 2015

So, how did 2014 go?
The 2014 panzer is gone and the 2015 truck is passing

Writing
Well, not too bad, but not as good as expected. Less battle reports, my RRtK campaign frozen and some battle not written yet.

Expanding my reach

Audience wise, I have to thank Sean who gave me damn good advices how to share my reports to more people.

Painting
That were I am the happiest. I had a good production, not Golden Demon or award level, but decent quality with new twists. There was a load of survivors for my WWW2 campaign, zombies and bolt action.
I also participated to Zombober that gave me a good kick to paint my zombicide.
Battle For Alabaster - Bad guys painted
Games
THW games were the most popular system I have played in 2014, namely ATZ-FFO and RRtk, followed by Bolt Action. I have played 1 SOTR game and 3 games of Kings of War (KoW). We pledged to its last kickstarter with a friend and we had to try army combination before buying new extra stuff.

I have adopted a new format for my battles in RRtK

I have also play few small games with my son and my daughter recently, a paper Xwing game and a playmobile "Knights and Dragon".
Fighting dragons for few gems
Star Wars space fighter game (*unlicensed*)
2015 Plans
In 2015, I will try to avoid buying too much stuff. I think I will add more fantasy ranges than anything else, first to build my Kings of War army, secondly to try to get my son into it.
I am supposed to receive 2 kickstarters (3 if I include KoW): Incursion kickstarter and Stone Dungeon Tiles.

Games:
  • Continue my Reich of the Thousand Deads campaign,
  • Play some Bolt Action,
  • Start (maybe this year it will happen) my Fallout campaign,
  • Play Kings of War,
  • Design a Star Wars game for my kids (they are deeply into Star Wars!)
  • Play a Man o'war campaign with "For a bottle of Rum" campaign rules.
  • Play Incursion
 Painting:
  • Paint at least an army of fantasy
  • Paint at least an army of Urban War
  • Finish all my www2 miniatures
  • Paint 2 fleets of Man o'War
dwarf fleet #1, the Rebel fleet

dwarf fleet #2

Old Memories back - Games Workshop Man O' War

Not so long ago I was wandering on FRP and found that some of the Valient range (1/1200 and 1/2000 ships) were going OOP. Like any gamer, this rang a bell of urgency and sign up for the last ships and look at them with sparkle in the eyes when they arrived. My Precious!

Yes, I have to admit, I was and still am, a big big fan of Man o' war or MOW or Manowar. I bought the game back at its release time. The good old times when you buy a White Dwarf, read the reports and looked at the photos. Manowar was appealing because it was cheap and easy to start. In these days, I used mostly the mail and order, these were the days before World Wide Web was available to all. A full game was about 2 hours and no more than 10 ships. That was a bargain. The only issue was that the miniatures were on sale for a very short time.

We resorted with my brothers to use cork sheets and toothpick to build up massive fleet of Imperial, Bretonnian and Dwarves, in addition to the 7 original ships we owned.

We played massive games during Summer and it was fun.

For some years, prices were keeping me out, and the fact that there is a limited quantity of ships on sale, mostly on ebay, mostly expensive.

The new Bretonnian fleet

So I bought new ranges on FRP as count-as and here is what it look like. Scale is totally off, so I think I will have to play without the original and lock them in a safe.
