The great Vorozion and Derigion empires met. The clash of arms was to decide the fate of Pole, one more time.
In the South, Batranoban looked to conquer easily an too independent Lord while the Sekeker were raiding another fiefdom.
Battle of Red Field, Spring 1031
The 2 master of war Derigion and Vorozion had decided to fight a decisive battle on the road to Pole.
The Vorozion had been deep into Derigion territory and the army of Marshal Vicus marched from Pole in a hurry.
This army was the cream of the Derigion Emperor and he had great faith in its victory. Meanwhile, the Vorozion were sure of their strength with no less than 3 heavy cavalries.
Vorozion Army: 340 Infantry, 170 heavy cavalry
Derigion Army: 535 Infantry, 20 heavy cavalry, 15 war chariots
The Derigion surprised the Vorozion who decided to defend, protected by an impassable terrain on their left and a forest hiding their main cavalry corp.
The Derigion focused on a long line of infantry, war chariot in front of the Vorozion infantry and phalange to face the cavalry. Gigax the Hero decided to face the dreaded Heavy Cavalry to prove them wrong.

Turn 1 Vorozion
The Infantry moved forward and the cavalry was kept in reserve
Turn 2: Derigion
The War Chariot charged the Levies inflicting major damages while the infantry moved slowly
Turn 2: Vorozion
Heavy Cavalry moved forward and formed only 1 body.
The Infantry charged the War Chariot while the Borderer tried to route the Archer and the Derigion's levy.
B1 charged, B2 charged (pass 2d6).Archer passed the being charged test, Levy stopped.
Melee
Nomenclature:
Unit Name (Attack Dice/Defense Dice) vs Unit (Attack Dice/Defense Dice) result UnitA-Attack-Success/Defense-Success vs UnitB-Attack-Success/Defense-Success

B1 vs Levy: 5/1 vs 7/2. result 3/0 vs 4/1: B1 received 1 hit and inflicted 2 hit (outnumbered)
Vorozion L and L2 failed their test (Routed). because they routed, L1 took 3 (=REP) more hit (total 10), L2 took 3 (=REP) more hit (total 4)
I1-I2 charged the War Chariot (pass 2d6). WC pass 2d6
I vs WC1: 5/3 vs 4/3 result 1/3 vs 2/1. I received no hit while WC received no hit.
I2 vs WC3: 5/3 vs 4/3 result 3/1 vs 2/0. I2 received no damage while WC received 3 hits.
Summary:
L1 (=Vorozion Levy) has 10 dmg
L2 has 4 dmg
I2 has 1 dmg
W3 has 4 dmg
W2 has 1 dmg
DL (=Derigion Levy) has 2 dmg,
B1 4 dmg
Turn 3 Derigion
The Levy gave ground but because they could not, they took 1 hit. Seeing his right side in danger, Vicus did what he did best, something stupid. As the Archer routed, he sent the 3rd Phalange against the Borderers while the WC1 and WC3 retreated. WC was to delay the Vorozion Infantry as much as possible but the P3 was exposing her rear would the War Chariots rout.
Melee:
L vs B1: 8/1 vs 3/2 result 6/0 vs 3/1. The Levy inflicted major damages to the Borderers (7 hits!) while receiving 2.
W1 vs I1: 6/2 vs 4/4 results 4/1 vs 3/3. The Infantry defended well against the War Chariot despite being flanked by them, dealing 2 hit against WC3 and taking 1.
P3 vs B2: 10/4 vs 3/2 result 3/2 vs 0/1. The Phalange did very little against the Borderer with a little 1 2 damages despite being stronger and better geared.
Summary:
L1 has 10 dmg
L2 has 4 dmg
Archer has 3 dmg
I1 has 1 dmg
I2 has 1 dmg
W3 has 5 dmg
W2 has 5 dmg
W1 has 2 dmg
DL has 6 dmg,
B1 has 9 dmg
B2 has 3 dmg
Turn 3 Vorozion
The left of the Vorozion army crumble, but as expected. The Derigion army was to have its attention on this weak flank while the Heavy Cavalry would win the battle.
The cavalry charged with all its strength while the famous Vorozion infantry was in a position to deal great damages. Unfortunately, the infantry was not able to gain momentum while Gygax prove its worth and all by himself was able to deal great damages to Vorozion heavy cavalry.
B1 routed and took 3 more damages
B2 routed and took 3 more damages
W1 routed takes 5 dmg
i1 attack rear of P3
I2 charge, H countercharge
Left flank charge,
Scout Rout, take 3 hits
P1, P2 halt. Hero charge H2 by himself.
Melee:
I-P3: 5/3 vs 4/5 result 2/1 vs 3/0. the Vorozion infantry completely failed its attack in the rear of the phalange. It had a great opportunity to route it. Instead, the Infantry took2 damage and dealt 2 on the phalange.
I2-H: 5/3 vs 7/4 result 3/2 vs 6/1. The Infantry routed the War Chariot and charged the command unit of the Derigion in a gamble to take it out. They didn't expected a strong resistance (in fact, I didn't expect them to be that good in defense) and the Infantry took 4 damages and dealt 2 hits.
H3 vs P2: 5/3 vs 2/5 result 3/3 vs 2/2 Heavy cavalry charging the phalange got the support of the Vorozion Knight unit to cancel the outnumbering bonus of the phalange. They dealt only 1 damage but were able to hit unscathed.
K vs P2: 8/3 vs 5/2 result 2/2 vs 1/2. Shame on Colwyn. With such a great opportunity to wipe out the unit, it was blown up. out of 8 dice (and 50% success on any dice), the Knights dealt NO damages and fortunately received none.
H1 vs P1 : 1 dmg for P1
H2 vs Hero: 9/3 vs 9/5 result 7/3 vs 7/3. This is where Hero are so dangerous. A hero had a great potential in the first round of melee and the fight was slightly balanced. Whatever, each side took 4 damages, thanks to a great defense roll of the Hero (100% success)
Summary:
L1 has 10 dmg
L2 has 4 dmg
Archer has 3 dmg

I2 has 5 dmg

Turn 4 Derigion
War Chariot changed their facing (I misread the rules for cavalry moving away of melee), getting into position to charge the two Vorozion Infantries. In the meantime, the Vorozion infantries were giving ground to their enemies.
All cavalry Vorozion retired in order to charge the next turn. Gygax followed closely the cavalry and maintained pressure.
Melee:
P3-I1: 5/4 vs 2/4 result 2/3 vs 1/1. The phalange faced the threat in their rear and started to engage it hard, defending well and dealing 1 damage to the Vorozion.
H-I2: 7/4 vs 4/4 result 5/2 vs 1/1. The Vorozion infantry took deep damages (4!) from the commanding unit.
Hero-H2: 5/5 vs 7/4 result 4/3 vs 6/0. Gygax lost a lot of bonus (Frenzy) because this was the second turn. He took a lot of damages despite a great defense (100% success) but the Heavy Cavalry failed to defend and received 4 damages.

L2 has 4 dmg

Turn 4 Vorozion
The whole Vorozion left routed suddenly and the extreme right too. Colwyn did not have the time to see the situation as he was charging.
With the loss of more than 50% of its REP total, Colwyn decided to call it a day and retreated with the remaining cavalry without being challenged by the slow Derigion.
(in reality, I was too late to finish the game properly, the Vorozion would have been wiped out on Derigion's turn)
I1 Routed
I2 routed
H2 Routed
H3 forced to charge P2. K charge P2, P2 routed
H1 charge P1.
